Wednesday, 23 April 2014

As you will know I am loving the boyfriend short, and these ones from Topshop are an amazing colour with a textured weave that gives them a more tailored feel. The Warehouse croc effect cropped shirt is a fresh summer wardrobe staple and is going straight onto my payday purchases list. Markus Lupfer has produced the bomber of the season with this patchwork flower version, it is beyond perfection. Then there are the Wangs, oh the Wangs! First of all they are 60% off on The Outnet, and that is reason enough to purchase them, but they also glow in the dark and are a perspex and rubber dream!

Inspiration | Although I only ever blog about fashion I am a bit of a beauty products lover, so inspiration this week has been around trying out new looks, taking ideas from my 'oh to be a girl' board here, as well as some of my favourite beauty blogs from roses and life set sail

Purchase of the week | This week's purchases have been small but perfectly formed. I popped into & other stories yesterday and grabbed this gold ear cuff and some simple hairpins (as necessary purchase whilst growing out my fringe). I would recommend a trip over Easter as they are giving away a free gift with every purchase - you won't be disappointed!

Take me away

Friday, 18 April 2014

Easter is here already and I wish I was going on a well deserved break somewhere hot and humid, but alas I am stuck in the somewhat sunny capital for the long weekend. Which isn't a bad thing as I have one of my best friend's birthdays to attend and a whole lot of shopping to do!

However if I was setting sail for sunnier climates this would be my outfit of choice. The Topshop oversized weekend bag is my new go to for mini adventures. Slogan t-shirts are always a winner and this etre cecile is witty, funny and on trend, love it. Styled to give the monochrome some pop with summer yellows and the signature slip ons from MSGM.

Coachella

Sunday, 13 April 2014

I am amazed is it Coachella already! But this marks the beginning of the festival season, and that can only mean one thing - festival dressing. Me and my friend Emily call this Stevie Nicks season. Festival attire is all about getting a balance between vintage (I tend to go 70s) and modern, functional pieces. This is not fancy dress, so it is more about embracing an overall style then trying to emulate exactly. Having said that if there is ever a time you can get away with flower crowns when you aren't a 6 year old girl, the festival field is the place to do it!

Paper Mache Tiger Press Day

Saturday, 12 April 2014

I have been pretty busy with press days these past couple of weeks, and have been producing no end of write ups!

This week I popped to Shoreditch to meet the lovely people at Paper Mache Tiger, to drink some peppermint tea and fawn over the Etre Cecile collection - a Paper Thin favourite - and to find out about some amazing labels I can't wait to share with you all.

Etre Cecile didn't fail to impress, but then I am a sucker for a slogan and a great print, so this was always going to work for me. A/W 14 has an array of amazing prints, although the stand out has to be the arrow print below. Neoprene featured heavily - midi skirts, mini skirts, sweatshirts. Clear staples for fall, and the label showcasing 'a fresh balance between our known-and-loved street factor, pepped up with an elegant twist'. But of course the street factor was still there and as tongue in cheek as ever. Slogans such as 'je parle francais' and 'le Bombe' are sure to adorn the chests of many bloggers this autumn, and with the added excitement of teaming up with Executive Editor of Harper’s BAZAAR USA, Laura Brown to produce 'Slogans such as ‘ON Y VA’ and ‘CHARGE!’ printed on the backdrops of Metropolitan France' the casually cool label just got a little bit cooler.

Next was the amazing S/S 14 swimwear collection by Beth Richards, having just finished writing a piece on this I can safely say that I want the whole range! It is uber chic, functional and the introduction of mint green and tomato red to the standard monochrome palette, means the mix and match label is more versatile than ever.

The stand out piece was the 'Grace' swimsuit - I am in L.O.V.E. (see below)

Oh and the lookbook is stunning!

Francis Leon was a new find, although they are on Collection 15 and started in 2010 so I am way behind on this one! I thought the collection was exquisite, their signature panelled leather jackets have an amazing level of detail, and A/W 14 sees 'double-faced suede and grey, as well as navy sportsmesh' added to the staple pieces. They are unreal.

Next season also sees an introduction of denim, and I already have my eye firmly fixed on the pair below - the boyfriend fit, the dipped dye, the leather/denim mix - denim luxury at its best.

Zan Zan is the final label I got to view this week They create their own acetates, so each style is completely unique to the brand, and each pair of sunglasses retails at the same price, so there is no need to compromise on style to fit inside your budget!

The aesthetic of the brand is beautiful, and I can't stress enough the level of quality.

For S/S 14 their 'Avida Dollars' are the perfect pair, with a stained glass feel to them, they have sold out at the moment on Farfetch and for good reason. However having seen what is to come, I am holding out! The new collection see more pastel colour choices, with a pop art feel to them. The styles are modern, inventive and original - what more could a girl want?

Inspiration | Having been all grown up this week and gone to the bank for a mortgage, I am in full interior design mode! Check out some inspiration for your home/bedroom/uni dorm here

Purchase of the week | As most of you will know I love discovering a new brand, and this week I have found the sunglasses for summer from London brand Zan Zan. They have such an amazing range, and I love that the price point is the same regardless of the style. My favourite style from the S/S collection is the 'Avida Dollars' below, however having attended their press day this week I can safely say the range has some amazing new styles to offer for A/W.

Strange

Sunday, 6 April 2014

As I was browsing the internet the other, procrastinating from actual writing, I came across this amazing Richard Nicoll sweatshirt and knew immediately I had to feature it on the blog. Amazing slogan, tick. Can be worn with half of my existing wardrobe, tick. Fulfils my need to own everything pink at the moment, tick. My boyfriend even commented the other day that for a non-girly girl I own an awful lot of pink at the moment, and for him to notice it must have gotten bad!

I have styled it with this amazing blue leather skirt from Topshop, and then added the Sophia Webster 'Brandy' sandals I featured on wish list the other day. But, the best thing about slogan sweatshirts is you could also just throw it on with jeans and some slip on skaters and you are out the door.

Have a great Monday!

Rainbow Wave Press Day

Sunday, 6 April 2014

I was lucky enough to go to the Rainbow Wave press day this week on behalf of Zero Magazine. Their space is amazing and has a really clean aesthetic. But most surprisingly was the amazing aroma as I entered. I found out later it was one of the new Bella Freud candles. The candle is 'Ginsberg is God' and the scent was fig leaf and tomato, I would recommend and you can purchase the candles here.

When going to a press day I always try and go with labels in mind that I want to feature on the blog or that I want to write about for the magazine. So my targets were Each x Other, Carven and Bella Freud. I also love finding something new and the Atea collection looked amazing.

Each x Other A//W 2014 collection is 'a common and identical wardrobe for him and for her, that plays with the myth of androgyny.' I love the ethos behind this brand. They work as a collective, original art starts the process, this is then produced as smaller, limited edition prints/works to be purchased. The original art is then worked into the collection pieces, creating a dialogue between art and fashion. The pieces are described as 'rough luxury' and colour-wise pink, red and blue are balanced by an underlying neutral and monochrome background. The stand out piece was a pair of white leather dungarees, embossed onto the inside of them was the art work below.

Carven was beautiful, their collection is perfectly described as 'The gangster’s girlfriend of the precollection turned into a woman of the Arts, borrowing references from Dadaism, collages and cadavres exquis by Blumenfeld, Picabia, Oppenheim or Man Ray.' The prints had amazing detail to them, in particular the 'ocean' print showcasing a combination of  grey blue and powder pink (below). The surrealist 'taboo' print was also a stand out (below), as was the fetish take on accessories. The screw and chain fastening on the highly structured, box shaped bags, looks amazing.

Bella Freud was understated cool as always. For A/W 2014 the collection ‘is inspired by the fantasy of Debbie Harry on the couch talking to Sigmund Freud’ and the colour focus was on monochrome, bubble gum pink, charcoal marl and tomato red.

Stand out pieces were the kid mohair menace sweater, as well as a colour change for the iconic 1970 knit (both below). Evening wear took on a edgy coolness. The collection when mixed in the look book, had a laid back feel to it, although the light structuring gives it a togetherness without a hint of effort.

Finally Atea was all about clean cuts and basics that transcend seasons. Boucle was featured throughout, and the colour palette was subtle and easy to wear, as to be expected. The perfect go to label, for amazing staples that will last for seasons.

Inspiration | This week has been about press days and writing so fashion has been my single inspiration, and for a fashion writer that is a good thing! Check out my fashion board here

Purchases of the week | I know this is normally just one thing, but this week I couldn't decide which of my new Topshop purchases to highlight, and rules were made to be broken so I am giving you two purchases of the week. The first is this amazing backpack, I saw a girl pick it up last week so of course I had to go back and get one for myself. Next up is these basic sandals, I missed out on the Hix version last year, so I was super happy to see the new Horizon style stocked for this summer!
